Dear Ask The Doctor: I stopped taking my pill in Feb and had a period as normal on 25th Feb. This would mean that I was due Friday but still on sign of my period. I'm 24 been on pill for 8years but my partner and I are hoping to start a family together. I know the chances of getting pregnant the frist time are small. How long should I edit, its now been 31 days since last period. Could it be late as my body is adjusting to not takibg the pill anymore or should I have just come on like normal, I was always very regular whilst on the pill.
I presume your last menstrual period (LMP - first day of the previous period) was Feb 25. It is possible that your body is still adjusting since you have stopped taking the pill. The normal menstrual cycle can range from 20-35 days, ergo, some women have their menses every 5 weeks. If your period has not appeared 5-6 weeks after the LMP, you may do a home pregnancy test kit. It is best to do this early in the morning (first morning urine upon waking up) as it is the most concentrated. Also, it is noteworthy that birth control pills can regulate the menstrual cycle. It is possible that your menses were irregular but since you have been using the pill for 8 years, it has been regulated while you were on the pill. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best. |
