Dear Ask The Doctor: Last month(June) I had a period lasting 4 days, ever since I had my first child, a year ago..a 4 day period is normal for me. This month my period was 8 days late, and all i did was spot for 4-5 days. While I was spotting I took a pregnancy test and it came out negative..but since before I started spotting i've been having lower back pains..and just recently (within the last few days) i've been having lower left abdominal cramps. What could be going on? You can do a home pregnancy test, and do this in the morning (first morning urine upon waking up); the urine during this time has the highest detectable amount of hormones. The spotting could be a lot of things but I think it could be an implantation bleed. I also think you should see your doctor regardless so the lower left abdominal pain can be completely assessed. An ultrasound can be done to confirm pregnancy. If there are ovarian cysts or, hopefully not, an ectopic pregnancy, it can also be seen by an ultrasound. I do hope I have appeased your concerns and take care always. |
