Missed my Periods, Could I be Pregnant? |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I have normal period that comes every month. Comes the same day every month, it didn't come this month and the month previous it was extremely heavy. Now having severe stomach pains that comes and goes. Not a cramping feeling and I rarely ever get cramps before or during my period. Also haven't been under any stress to cause my cycle not to come. So could this mean I am pregnant? Dear Andrea: I get these questions all the time and it is very difficult for me to say if you are pregnant or not. The only way to confirm pregnancy is to do a urine pregnancy test when you missed your period or 2-3 weeks after you've had sex. The cause of your cramps may be due to dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps) and may be relieved on taking NSAIDS (Ibuprofen) (please make sure that you are not pregnant before taking the drug because it is contra-indicated in pregnancy). If the pain does not stop or becomes severe, you have have to visit your ob/gyn doctor for further tests and bloodwork (CBC, ESR, kidney function and liver function tests) and ultrasound to diagnose the cause of the pain. |
