Cramps while on Birth Control PIlls

Dear Ask The Doctor: I've been on birth control for about seven months. I still get pretty bad cramps every time the "period" happens. I hear this isn't normal and could be cause for concern. Should I be concerned?

Dear Sam: Mild cramps while on birth control pills may commonly occur for a couple of months, but if severe cramps continue for several months, it may be concerning. Such cramps may suggest some underlying conditions such as pelvic infection or endometriosis. You need to to see a gynecologist for further evaluation of the cause.
