Dear Ask The Doctor: Is it safe to take penicillin during the first trimester of pregnancy to treat a bladder infection? Yes. Penicillin is a Pregnancy category B drug which means that it is relatively safe for use in pregnancy, even on the first trimester. I still suggest you ask for a doctor’s prescription before starting on any antibiotics, if you haven’t seen one yet. I do hope this helps and take care always. |
