Dear Ask The Doctor: I have an AMS700 3-piece penile implant installed around 1993-4. I think it is failing. It is only inflating about half way. What's up? Can anything be done? Thanks Dear Andrew: As you would have been told at the time of your surgery, penile implants are not intended to last a lifetime. There is also no way to predict when or if the device will fail. When such a device fails there is no easy fix. Surgery must be performed to remove or replace the device. You will need to see a urologist or the surgeon who performed the initial surgery.
