Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, I would like to ask questions regarding varicocele surgery. I went through surgery on 5th july for my left varicocele 4mm thick. The surgery went well and i was fine for a few days. the scar hurt but I was aware of that considering i just came out. That is not my main concern, i masturbated about 4-5 days after the surgery and everything was normal. it was pain free. i just wanted to know does masturbating soon after surgery bring varicocele back or cause any complications? furthermore, 2 days after that i started getting sores on my left testicle. i get sore to the touch of my left testicle and slight sharp pain or burn time to time from my lower abdomen leading to the left testicle. i also notice the lump attached to the left testicle hurts when i touch it but the whole left side is pretty much sore. I'm just worried i have complicated things or if my varicocele came back. when i wear supporter it helps me to ease the pain. moreover, before the surgery i never had any pain from my left testicle, the reason i operated my varicocele is because it affected my sperm count. please advise me about the pain and possible complications. I'm very worried and a bit embarrassed to ask my own doctor about the masturbation. i hope this is confidential. thank you, hope to hear from you asap. by the way i also got an allergic reaction to the pethidine used in my operation for pain. i am under medication for that as i was getting red spots all over my body. they have disappeared but i still have to finished the entire course of medication. I'm very worried about permanent damage to my nerves, another varicocele and complications which could affect fertility and give me pain..
Dear Matthew: You will need to return to your surgeon as soon as possible! I strongly suspect that you have developed an infection in your testicle. This is called an orchitis. You will to have this confirmed by your surgeon and be prescribed the appropriate antibiotics as well as pain medication. Please do not hesitate to see your doctor! |
