Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, i was taking amoxicillan 500 whilst using microgynon 30, i finished the antibiotic on the sunday and had unprotected sex on the monday night, i didnt realise u wer advised to wait 7 days, i took the morning after pill on the wednesday evening nomore than 48 hrs after. is there any chance i could get pregnant? Dear Charlene: The actual decrease in the effectiveness of the oral contraceptive pill due to antibiotics has not been studied. But because of a theoretical increased chances of pregnancy when using antibiotics with birth control pills, additional contraception other than birth control pills is often advised. Since you've also taken a morning after pill, there is little chance that you will be pregnant. |
