Dear Jonathan: Gonorrhea is caused by neisseria gonorrhoeae, a bacteria. The infection is spread through sexual contact. The symptoms of gonorrhea appear within 2-5 days of infection and include : burning sensation and pain when urinating, discharge from penis, swelling of penis or scrotum and fever. infection is confirmed by gram stain of urethral discharge, culture or PCR tests. I would advise you to see your doctor and investigate whether you have the infection. Treatment will depend on the diagnosis. You can greatly lower your risk of catching an STD by using a condom every time you have sex. |
