Dear Ask The Doctor: I am a female and I was diagnosed with chlamydia about 2 weeks ago. It turns out that I've had it for a little over a year and didn't even know it. My doctor gave me a prescription for Doxycycline and I already finished my meds. It's been a week after my last dose but I'm starting to feel discomfort. For example; I'm having dark brown- almost black- discharge, I feel itching in my private parts. My question is, is it normal for my to feel these things right after treatment? Or if it a bad sign?
Dear Jatnna: Doxycycline may completely cure chlamydia infection in 95% of cases after one course of antibiotics. However since you still have signs of vaginitis, I would recommend that you see your doctor for microscopical examination and culture of the discharge.
You should refrain form sexual intercourse at this time until your partner has been tested and treated for chlamydial infection. |
