Dear Ask The Doctor: I recently tested positive for chlamydia that I receved from a past partner. I have a new partner and we've only had oral sex (fellatio and cunnilligus), which was before i found out i was infected. Is it possible that my new partner could have chlamydia too?
Dear Lola: Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium, Chlamydia trachomatis. Chlamydia can be transmitted during vaginal, anal or oral sex, therefore it is a possibility that your partner may have got the infection. Tests for chlamydia probably become positive within 1-2 days. Therefor a urine or blood test should be done after a week. Chlamydia can be easily treated and cured with antibiotics. A single dose of azithromycin or a week of doxycycline (twice daily) are the most commonly used treatments. |
