Dear Ask The Doctor: I recently tested positive for chlamydia, i got treated about 12 days ago. if i go back and get retested now, what are the chances of the test coming back positive even though ive been treated and havent had sex. Dear Henry: I understand your concern about Chlamydia testing. The results would depend on what they are testing for, certainly the most common test used detect antigens which would indicate active infection. Since you just finished your antibiotics, there might still be a possibility of having a positive result. Once your immune system clears the infection completely in about two weeks after finishing your treatment the test for active infection would certainly be negative; however there are other tests that show antibodies and this might become positive due to recent exposure to the bacteria. |
