Could I Have an STI? |

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, i had sex recently had sex with my boyfriend for the first time, it was unprotected. The first time was over 2 weeks ago and the most recent was 2 days ago. I havent had my period this month. I am experiencing pain and a stinging sensation all the time especially when urinating, i am also noticing blood when urinating (i am unsure whether its coming out of my vagina or not). My boyfriend told me that he was treated for chlamydia a few months ago and he has had many partners previously, whereas he is my first. Help!! Dear Ella: If your partner has been treated effectively for chlamydia and he has been tested negative after his treatment, you may not have contracted an infection from him. As far as your periods are concerned, if it has already been past your due date for your periods, it may be likely that you are pregnant as you may have been ovulating 2 weeks ago around the time you had unprotected sex. You may want to take a pregnancy test to find out. Regardless of the fact that your partner is free from infection or not after his treatment, you may still want to take a test for chlamydia just to be safe. You may use a tampon to confirm if the bleeding is from the vagina (means you have your periods) or if it comes with urination, in which case it may be a urine infection and needs to be treated with some antibiotics and increased fluid intake.
