Chlamydia testing and accuracy

Dear Ask The Doctor: I was tested positive for chlamydia and know I have been faithful and was tested when I was pregnant and it was negative that was last year now I am told from a swob its positive I have had the same partner for 5years and he swears he not cheated could my test have been wrong or am I kidding myself that he has been faithful this is tearing me apart we have two kids and I can't cope I need answers please help me. My partner said he could have had it before we met and I only just caught it is this possible please help me get the answers thank you
Dear Karla: I can understand your concern and worry. Chlamydia is typically detected by taking a cervical swab or a urine test. There is always a chance that there may be a false positive result and if you are absolutely sure that there is no way that you could have contracted the same , then you can opt to repeat the test. Usually one would get the symptoms of chlamydia sooner than later after the initial contact. I wish you all the best. |
