Dear Ask The Doctor: Dear Ask the Doctor, My partner of 15 months was diagnosed with chlamydia. we were bith tested and abstained from sex for the required period. We were retested and both were clear. He has now told me that he thinks he has it back. Is this possible if I have been his only sexual partner when we were both clear 2 months ago? I am concerned that he has had sex wiht someone else who was infected. he said the doctor told him that it can come back even after a clear test. Is this correct?
Yes, this can be true. Bear in mind that Chlamydia is one of the most common STDs and has also developed resistance to the commonly used antibiotics. True, you have been retested and you were clear but there is always a slim chance (NOT ZERO) of false negative results. One of you may be harbouring Chlamydia and re-infecting the other. If you both get tested again and will be positive for Chlamydia again, you might need stronger antibiotics. If you really think he has sexual partners aside from you, its up to you to confront him about that. It is important to note that Chlamydia can also stay in the throat (aside from the genitalia) but one may be asymptomatic. Cunnilingus and fellatio can also transmit Chlamydia. I do hope all will turn out well. Take care always. |
