Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a yellowy discharge coming from my penis. It also burns when i urinate. At first i though it could be Gonorrhea but the only sexual partner i have had for over the past year is my boyfriend. We have has unprotected sex but he hasn't got any of the symptoms i have so he does not have Gonorrhea. Ive had this for nearly a month now and its not getting any better. Could it be Gonorrhea or could it be something else?
Dear Ricky: The exact cause of infection may only be made following the swab test of discharge to identify the organism. There could be a possibility of either gonococcal or non gonococcal (usually chlamydia) infection to produce similar symptoms and discharge. Majority of individuals infected with chlamydia may have no symptoms. And if symptoms do occur, they usually appear within 1 to 3 weeks following exposure. You need to get tested for the infection and may require antibiotics for cure. Simultaneous testing and treatment of your partner may be necessary to prevent recurrent infection and complete cure.
