Genital Warts and HPV |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I need to know if there is ANY way that a child can get Genital Warts any other way than sexually? A man was accused of sexual intercourse with a child and the child has genital warts and the man did not have any kind of STD. Is it possible for him to give it to the child if he doesn't have it? He took an STD test with a doctor to show he did not have an STD. Can you please tell me how this could be possible or is it not possible? Dear Wilma: I understand your worry about genital warts in pediatric patients. Genital Warts caused by HPV or Human Papilloma Virus represent the most common sexually transmitted disease caused by a virus. In children younger than three years, genital warts are thought to be transmitted by nonsexual methods such as direct manual contact when there is confirmation of non sexual contact. Nevertheless, the presence of genital warts in children should raise the suspicion for sexual abuse. Certainly there are some tests that could be done in the man accused of child abuse to confirm the presence of HPV. I hope I could clear your doubt. |
