Possible genital warts |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I am 15 years old and am a virgin, however, i have noticed some flesh coloured lumps on my penis and scrotum and think it may be genital warts. but as i am a virgin, i dont see how i could have it, could i have inherited it from my parents? Dear Adam: I understand how concerned you might be about genital warts. Common warts are skin growths caused by a virus called the human papillomavirus (HPV). This virus causes a rapid growth of cells on the outer layer of your skin. They usually grow on your hands or fingers. Treatment helps prevent common warts from spreading to other parts of your body or to other people. You can catch a wart virus indirectly by touching a towel or object used by someone who has the virus. It can take a wart as long as two to six months to develop after exposure to the virus. If this were the case, let me tell you that most of these warts don’t require treatment and they would heal on their own. If there is pain or you notice discharge coming out of the lesions, I would suggest you to consult your physician to rule out other possibilities. |
