HPV treatment without health insurance |

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hey, so I'm 23 years old and I was diagnosed with genital warts about 2 months ago, but I've had them for about 5 months now. There are only about 4 small bumps and they haven't changed in size much since i first noticed them. I applied for medicaid but its taking forever to find out if I qualified. Is there something I can do to help them go away since I can't see doctor at the moment without some form of health insurance? Please help me? Dear Angela: Genital warts caused by certain types of HPV usually appear as a small bump or groups of bumps in the genital area. They can be small or large, raised or flat, or shaped like a cauliflower. Health care providers can diagnose warts by looking at the genital area during an office visit. Warts can appear within weeks or months after sexual contact with an infected partner even if the infected partner has no signs of genital warts. Let me reassure you that if left untreated, genital warts might go away, remain unchanged, or increase in size or number. Since a few months have passed and you notice no change in them I would suggest you to leave them on their own until you can get prescription treatment. Surely warts in other parts of your body such as your hands can be treated with Salicylic Acid or Podophylin but genital warts are must be first evaluated before prescribing topical medications or other removal procedures. |
