HPV and Oral Sex

Dear Ask The Doctor: My long term boyfriend and I have the same strand of HPV. He no longer notices any warts and I rarely have them now. Would it be safe for us to have oral sex? Would warts start to appear orally?

Dear Chelsea:

I understand your concern about HPV transmission. Let me reassure you that certain types of HPV that cause genital warts in males and females will rarely cause warts in the throat.

However there is a small chance of re infection. Wearing condoms might reduce your chances of oral infection.
