Hpv infection, partner claims she does not have it |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I've been diagnosed with hpv genital warts after an exclusive (to me) 5 year relationship. I first had symptoms in 2008. I am now 36 and she is now 24. I told my (now) ex-wife about this, and she claims that she got tested and doesn't have this. Is this even possible? We had unprotected sex up until December 2010. Is it possible she had this and it went away, or she has an undetectable form of this? Or is she just saying she got tested and is lying for some reason? Seems very peculiar to me. Dear Robert: As you may already know, Genital warts, also known as venereal warts are one of the most common types of sexually transmitted diseases. It is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus or HPV and infects the top layers of your skin. There are more than 100 different types of HPV, but only a few can cause genital warts. These strains of the virus are highly contagious and spread through sexual contact with an infected person. Usually the warts show after 3 months from contact but sometimes the virus could lie dormant for years and show. I hope o cleared your doubt. |
