Dear Ask The Doctor: I was recently told I have HPV. I have been married for 13 years and only had sex with my husband. How long does it take For HPV to be dectected?
Dear Veronda: HPV is a virus that is transmitted between humans by skin to skin contact. It is known to cause plantar warts, genital warts and cervical cancer. It is also associated with other benign skin conditions. The time between transmission of the virus and detection of the virus can vary from days to decades. Further complicating the issue is that a large percentage of people have the virus with no symptoms and are unaware they are transmitting it to other people they come in contact with. |
