How to Treat Genital Warts?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I had a small genital wart and I used the salycilic acid and also apple cider vinegar treatment and it only made it worse. I have heard they may go away after a while naturally, but it takes a long time. Is that true? Also, I was reading about prescription medicine like wartrol to help it go away. Is this also true?
Dear Mike: Genital warts can appear within weeks or months after sexual contact with an infected partner—even if the infected partner has no signs of genital warts. They may go away on their own in about 3 to 5 months, but thats not always the case. Some people may have them for longer periods and may require treament to clear the genital warts. You may visit your family doctor and discuss the many available treatment options like cryotherapy that uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the wart, laser treatment, topical applications like podophyllum resin, podophilox, imiquimod etc. I may not be able to give you accurate information about the drug wartrol which seems to be a homeopathic medication, but you may consider speaking with a homeopathic doctor for more information. As you have tried using salicylic acid and apple cider vinegar, which worsened the warts, I would recommend that you consult with your GP before trying anything else. |
