Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been intimate with my boyfriend and we forgot many times to use a condon he has HPV that has caused him to have genital warts but he said its been inactive or years. i am a gay male so we had anal intercorse with the fact it was bareback will that be bad even though he didnt cum? then two times when he came masterbating i used his cum to masterbate with what we did sexually will it cause me to get HPV
The cause of genital warts is the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). This virus is contained in the superficial squamous cells. Squamous cells are cells lining numerous organs of the body: skin, throat, mouth, anus, vagina, etc. This virus can be transmitted through direct skin to skin contact (superficial skin cells are easily shed), kissing, handshake, sexual intercourse (penis to anus, penis to vagina, penis to mouth). Exchange of body fluids is not necessary (although, still very possible) to transmit the virus since simpler methods can transmit it. Needless to sa, there is a very high chance of you acquiring the virus. Different types of this virus can cause common genital warts but there are a few types that can cause penile CA and anal CA in men, and cervical CA in women. Even if your boyfriend says the genital wart is inactive for years, there is still a possibility of contracting it. Having no warts does not mean you don’t have the virus; it means you may still have the virus but it is not producing symptoms. It is also noteworthy that male condoms are not 100% effective against HPV or other STDs. There is an HPV vaccine which may protect you and your partner from cancer and common genital warts. Only 3 shots of Gardasil are needed for lifetime protection. Bear in mind that Gardasil (HPV vaccine) has 4 strains only: the 2 most common strains that can cause cancer and the 2 most common strains that causes genital warts. There are rare virus strains that can still cause cancer and genital warts. I hope I have answered your question. Take care always. |
