Afraid of getting HIV from tissue paper

Dear Ask The Doctor:Hello. I was at work and went to the toilet(with nr.2) I always have hemorroid and this time it was bleeding :(. The paper wich I used had been wet and dried but was yellow to brownish (like almost half of the paper) I did not notice it before using it. it must have happened the night before or 1 or 2 hours before I used it. so here is my question: is there any possibility that I could have gotten HIV from it? I am so scared of it I cant even sleep after this happened (only have sex with my husband and have never used drugs).

Dear Gudrun:I do understand your concern, however that chances of you contracting HIV from the paper is very very low, in-fact it may be negligible. The virus remains only viable until the blood remains a liquid. After the blood dries, the virus soon dies. The odds that there was a viable virus in the paper is next to impossible. If it helps to calm your nerves, you may take a HIV test after 6 months. I hope this helps, take care.

the virus is only viable for the time that the blood remains liquid. After drying out, the virus soon dies -- the time is not in days but in minutes.
