Is it safe to have sex during the seven days you dont take the pill?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I just started taking yasmin and its a 28 day pack so i take 21 days of the medication and 7 days sugar pill.. during the 7 days im supposed to get my period well if my period only lasts 4 days and im not due to start my next pack for another 3 days is it still safe to have sex in those 3 days?
