Molluscum contagiosum transmission after treatment |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello, I'm a male in my early twenties. I was treated three days ago with trichloroacetic acid for a Molluscum contagiosum bump near the top of my pubic hair. The bump and surrounding skin turned white; the nurse practitioner told me this indicated that the acid was working. The treated area has not yet fallen off. My girlfriend performed oral sex on me yesterday--I would like to know if she could have caught the virus on her mouth or hands, even though the area had been burned with acid and is covered by pubic hair. If so, I'd like to know the incubation period for MC. Thank you! Dear Joe: I understand your concern about Molluscum Contagiosum transmission. Molluscum contagiosum spreads through direct person-to-person contact and through contact with contaminated objects. Molluscum contagiosum involving the genitals is considered a sexually transmitted disease (STD). In adults it is associated with HIV and should be ruled out. The lesion can be contagious until complete recovery; your girlfriend might have been infected by you. I would suggest you to tell her and get her tested for molluscum and also it would be recommended to rule out other sexual transmitted diseases or conditions that would alter your immune system such as HIV. I wish you a prompt recovery. |
