Can a girl get pregnant this way?

Dear Ask The Doctor: If a boy and girl are in an average pool at opposite sides and the boy ejaculates in the water, can the girl get pregnant. The penis is not in the girl but outside at a distance. I am just wondering.

In my opinion this would be nearly impossible to produce a fertilization of an egg, the chlorine in the water would certainly interfere and probably the sperm would die almost within a short period of time.
