Could I be Pregnant?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am currently on the yasmine pill and I had unprotected sex, 1hr latter I took the morning after pill cause I was worried I might be pregnant cause I was on the 11th day of my cycle which could be my fertile days , am I pregnant

Dear Sara: You are maximally (99%) protected while you are on birth control pill, to have an unprotected sex. So you were safe unless there has been a contraception failure (1%). Usually pills prevent pregnancy by preventing the ovulation to occur, but occasionally ovulation may occur (in case of vomiting, missing the pills or even if the pills taken regularly) and at these times pregnancy may occur due to pill failure. But as you have mentioned taking the morning after pill almost immediately after the unprotected sex, it is least likely that you may be pregnant at this time.
