Dear Ask The Doctor: I just started taking yaz and i have been taking the active pills for 11 days now, but i missed one 2 days ago. And last night i had sex with my boyfriend and the condom broke i was wondering if i should be covered by the pills i have been taking or if i should get the morning after pill today to be sure?
When you missed the pill, did you take the missed pill as soon as possible? Or did you take 2 pills for the next dose? If a pill is missed, taking 2 pills in a span of 24 hours is still okay; the chances of getting pregnant is very slim, perhaps <1%. You can still take the morning after pill, if you want but I think it will be unnecessary. It is noteworthy though that the morning after pill is most effective (90-95%) within 24 hours from unprotected intercourse, and effectivity decreases (50-60%) when taken within 72 hours. I do hope this helps and take care always. |
