Dear Ask The Doctor: How soon and how safe is it to have sex after a mild heart attack? It was a mild one which a small blockage was discovered. This is for approx. 49 yr old male.
Dear Joy: If you had a mild heart attack, as a result of a small blockage, which has been widened by angioplasty or stenting, there should be no problem in resuming activity as part of a cardiac rehabilitation programme. This encourages physical exercise, due to the beneficial effects on your cholesterol, blood pressure, weight and as part of a healthier lifestyle. The amount of activity each individual can undertake depends on your previous fitness levels and residual heart function. Most people can resume sexual activity within 3 to 4 weeks. You may consult your cardiologist for further advice, if you are concerned. |
