Dear Ask The Doctor: I am not in a regular sexual relationship, but on the odd occassions i do attempt to have intercourse ,if feels like my vagina has closed up is this possible as i feel like a freak, and its like the tip of the penis will only go in,i also have discomfort when having a smear whats wrong with me,as im to embarressed to go to my own doctor reguarding this matter. Pain during penetration may be associated with a range of factors such as insufficient lubrication. This is often the result of not enough foreplay. Insufficient lubrication is also commonly caused by a drop in estrogen levels after menopause, after childbirth or during breast-feeding. In addition, certain medications are known to inhibit desire or arousal, which can decrease lubrication and make sex painful. These include antidepressants, high blood pressure medications, sedatives, antihistamines and certain birth control pills. Emotions are deeply intertwined with sexual activity and may play a role in any type of sexual pain like Psychological problems. Anxiety, depression, concerns about your physical appearance, fear of intimacy or relationship problems can contribute to a low level of arousal and a resulting discomfort or pain. Stress can lead to painful intercourse, your pelvic muscles are very sensible to stress and anxiety. If this discomfort continues or worsens, I would suggest you to consult a gynecologist to rule out hormonal imbalances. |
