Blood in Semen aka Hematospermia: Common Causes
|

Dear Ask The Doctor: Over the past few months I have seen blood in my semen after ejaculation. I am 22 years old. I have been perfectly healthy my entire life. I have heard of Hemastiosperma. I don't know much about it. I am quite worried.
It is likely that your condition is hematospermia. The usual causes are prostate inflammation or infection, narrowing of the urethra (passageway of urine) aka urethral stricture or a blood clotting disorder. Trauma (excessive masturbation or too frequent sex) may cause this too. In some cases, the cause is idiopathic (can’t be determined). I strongly suggest you see a urologist urgently to identify the cause of the hematospermia. You may also request tests for sexually transmitted infections as these are common culprits of urethral strictures. I do hope I have answered your question and I wish you well always. |
