Low Sexual Desire in Newlywed |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: My fiance is 25 im 22 we just got engaged over summer. we barely have sex and she says she wishes she were in the mood more often but for some reason she is not, and she is too embarassed to tlk to a doctor. this is ruining our relationship because i feel like im not good enough for her. what should i do? Dear Nicholas: Different levels of sexual desire can cause a lot of stress in a new marriage. The important thing to differentiate is if there has been a change in sexual desire levels or if they have always been low in comparison to yours. If there has been a change, medical causes should first be ruled out. Common causes include thyroid problems, nutritional deficiencies, medication side effects (including birth control), sleep disorders, depression and low testosterone levels. However, the majority of cases do not have a medical cause. If a medical cause can not be found, other factors have to be considered such as life stresses, poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, relationship problems and infidelity. These may require the expertise of a therapist trained in sexual difficulties. The last issue that must be considered is that you and your wife may have different levels of libido and a compromise will have to be negotiated. |
