Wife Has Trichomoniasis

Dear Ask The Doctor: How can a husband and wife be sexually active and the wife contracts Trichomoniasis with the husband being the only partner and the husband does not contract it; with the understanding that this disease is transmitted only through sexual contact(the husband also denies sexually contact with any other the women)The husband has tested negative and the wife has not slept with anyone else, yet she is positive with all of the symptoms

Dear Nicole: I am assuming both you and your husband have been specifically tested for trichomoniasis.  If not, that is the first step.  Confirm the diagnosis through your doctor.  The typical symptoms of vaginitis, cervicitis, urethritis and vaginal discharge may be indicative of another infection.

Secondly, the only way to acquire trichomoniasis is through sexual contact.  If you have been diagnosed with trichomoniasis, you have acquired it from your husband or from another sexual partner.  There is no other way to acquire it.

Good luck
