Low paltelet count.

Dear Ask The Doctor: MY PLATELET COUNT IS 132 sHOULD i WORRY ?"

Dear Mari:

I realize your concern about low platelet count; a normal count is about 150,000 to 450,000 platelets per microliter (x 10–6/Liter) of blood. Certain medications and long-term bleeding problems ulcers contribute reducing the supply of platelets. It might also been produced after a recent infection.

Let me reassure you that the 132 000 should not worry you about bleeding risk, but I would suggest you to take another CBC in a month and if the numbers decrease to around a 100 000, your doctor might need to test you for possible kidney problems and spleen conditions that might be causing your low platelet numbers. I wish you the best.
