Dear Ask The Doctor: Ive seen a ent because ive been having problems with my throat. He diagnosed me as having reflux and gave me anti reflux meds and a nasal spray. the problem im having is this constant phlegm in my throat the whole day and I wanted to know what the correlation is between reflux and phlegm and why am i having phlegm the whole day? Ps i have only been using the medication for 3 days now Dear Naseer: Irritation of the esophagus and throat due to the reflux of acids from the stomach cold lead to irritation and collection of mucus that may be a cause of concern. I would definitely advise that you continue taking medication for reflux and you may see improvement in your symptoms within 2-3 weeks. Other cause off phlegm could be due to post nasal discharge seen in chronic sinusitis. |
