Acid Reflux and Caffeine |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I have acid reflux, but I like to drink coffee in the morning as a "pick me up." I know that people with acid reflux should stay away from caffeine, but what is the best caffeinated beverage for people with acid reflux to drink? Dear Greg: I understand your concern about drinking coffee when having Gastritis. Surely Coffee is not recommended to take when suffering from gastritis as this would increase the peristaltic movements and production of acid that can damage even more the already harmed gastric mucosa. Tea also contains caffeine but in a lower concentration, I don’t think that you would feel the same effects as drinking coffee but certainly it would cause fewer effects on your gastric problems. The best would be to avoid drinking caffeinated beverages. I wish you a prompt recovery. |
