Severe stomach problems |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I'm 14 years old.I have had stomach problems for all my life. About 2-3 years ago, the pain suddenly got very severe. I had to go to the emergency room. They simply gave me antacids and pain killers. The pain had become more complicated now. It occurs after I eat, sometimes during. It is very severe, unbearable pain. Lying on the cold floor sometimes alleviates the pain. I've had recurring constipation. I've been to doctor after doctor and they still haven't found the cause of my symptoms. I get nauseated often. I don't know if this is relevant but I have chronic back pain and occasional wrist and arm pain. The abdominal pain is around my navel but usually spreads upwards and downwards. I've had h. pylori infection before and it was treated by antibiotics. I recently had an endoscopy, scan and blood tests. All found nothing but the pain doesn't go away. What could it be? Can I suggest anymore tests to my doctor? My pain has currently been diagnosed as acid reflux. Dear Luba: I understand how concerned you should be about this condition. I would suggest you to consult a Gastroenterologist and have a more detailed clinical history and probably perform a PH test to confirm the diagnosis of Acid Reflux that you have at the moment. On the other hand, you certainly have signs and symptoms related to Gastritis, especially the type of pain and its relation to eating; however it is curious that no significant findings were shown after your endoscopy. According to your medical history, you might want to test again for H. Pylori to rule out this possibility as well. In the meantime avoid fatty and spicy foods, carbonated drinks, alcohol, caffeine and smoking. I wish you a prompt recovery. |
