Spitting up blood when consuming alcohol |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: When i consume alcohol i recently sarted getting bad heartburn, slighty centerd chest pain and spitting up small amounts of blood and a nasty taste in my mouth.Any information on how serious or not will be appreciated. Dear John: After reading your description of the symptoms related to your recent alcohol intake, I would suggest you to avoid Alcohol immediately. The medications you are taking ( Motrin , Vicodin) cause damage to the lining of your stomach and intestines and on top of that you are drinking alcohol which makes thing even worse. I would certainly encourage you to stop alcohol and your medications especially Motrin immediately and consult your physician for a more detailed evaluation and prescription of Antacids or other more potent medications to decrease your gastric acid level and favor the repair of the gastric mucosa. In the meantime avoid alcohol, spicy foods, coffee and chocolate. I wish you a prompt recovery. |
