Stomach Acid, Chills, Nausea and Stomach Infection

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi Doctor, I am 23 years old, Female. For the past 4 weeks I have been having really bad stomach acid reflux, nausea, cold sweats, upper stomach pain and chills. I went to the doctor and was prescribed Fasigyn (Tinidazole) and Somac (Pantoprazole). However, the medications increased my heart rate, anxiety and heart burn. I stopped taking Somac and the Nausea stopped for abit but for the past 3 days it's coming back. In addition whatever I eat 15 minutes later or so I would have to let it out (via stools), they are usually watery to soft; never hard like before. Same with fluid consumptions - every 15 minutes or so. I'm not sure what is wrong and it is really affecting my study life and daily life. Hope to hear from you soon.

Dear JN: I would also recommend the same medications as your doctor, for your parasitic infection which is causing you diarrhea type symptoms along with the acid reflux. Tinidazole leaves a Metallic/bitter taste and is also responsible for other side effects like nausea, anorexia, belly discomfort, weakness, headache, dizziness etc. So it would be better to take pantoprazole in the morning before breakfast because that way pantoprazole will have its action and better control on your acid reflux and heart burn through the day. You may then take tinnidazole at lunch with food to have a less upset stomach and better outcome. I would also suggest avoiding fatty foods and foods high in saturated fats, and having a healthy diet containing fibers, veggies and fruits. Remember to use proper sanitary precautions and wash your fruits and vegetables before consuming them.
