Vomiting green material after drinking beer

Dear Ask The Doctor: I'm a 20 year old male in college. About every other weekend I'll drink fairly heavy, get drunk, and be hungover the following morning. I am only 150 pounds so drinking 8-10 beers will get the job done. That next morning it's common for me to puke shortly after waking up, then again in another half hour, and possibly once more that morning. It's always a bright green liquid that I puke, I assume this is stomach acid. I don't think this is all that common, so that's why I am writing. Could you please explain what's going on in my stomach, and could this cause future problems for me? Also, is there any thing I can do to fight this, besides obviously not drinking so much? Thank you.
Dear Bronson: What you are vomitting out every morning after heavy drinking the previous night is actually bile. Bile is green in color and usually is regurgitated or vommitted when you have had excessive alcohol on an empty stomach. This as well as the heavy binge drnking every weekend can be very detrimental to your health and you will be at a higher risk of developing regurgitation, stomach and duodenal ulcers, pancreatitis etc. The main advice that I can give you is obvious and that is control and decrease your intake of alcohol . Also if you do take in large amounts fo alcohol also eat food along with it so that you protect your stomach to atleast some extent. All the best. |
