Consistant Abdominal Pain Near Navel |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: Over the past 6 months or so, I have had abdominal pain. It never moves. The pain is around my navel, but mostly on the right side of the navel. I need help diagnosing the problem in order to come up with a solution. The pain gets worse after eating. It hurts worse if I drink soda or anything acidic. It hurts to sleep on my stomach or wear tight pants. So far, my doctor has ruled out: appendicitis ovarian cyst stomach ulcer Dear Ashley: A lot of cases of abdominal pain can be diagnosed by their location. The navel location suggests the possibility of Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease or GERD. Other symptoms suggestive of GERD would be bloating, passing excess gas, burning sensation and pain that improves or worsens depending on the types of food eaten. An ultrasound would rule out other causes of your pain and it appears your doctor has already done that. GERD can be diagnosed by an endoscopic procedure but often invasive procedures are not necessary as most doctors will treat it empirically with a trial of medication. Speak to your doctor if a trial of medications for GERD is appropriate for you. |
