Dear Ask The Doctor: Ive got severe pain above my stomache under my rib cage which comes and goes after eating I am using lokit 20mg per day will this help with my problem?
Dear Jean: You have mentioned that you are experiencing severe upper abdominal pain which generally comes on eating, this may suggest of a biliary colic (caused due to the obstruction of the gallbladder due to stones), peptic ulcer disease or GERD (gastro-esophageal reflex disease). You have also mentioned that you are on lokit (omeprazole) 20mg.
If the symptoms have not improved on 14 days of the medication, I would suggust that you consult your doctor in regards to the above mentioned differentials. Your doctor may order an ultrasound abdomen or an upper GI endoscopy to confirm the diagnosis. You may further relieve the symptoms by certain lifestyle modification like avoiding spicy/fatty food, taking small and frequent meals, avoiding smoking and alcohol and regular exercise. |
