Meniscus Repair Without ACL Repair?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I have no ACL and a torn meniscus. Can I get the meniscus repaired without ACL reconstructive surgery? I cant take enough time away from work to recover from the full acl surgery.
Dear Tim: I strongly suggest having both injuries repaired at the same time. Both structures are extremely important for stability of the knee joint. If the meniscus was repaired without repairing the ACL, the knee joint will still be unstable. Such instability would jeopardize the meniscus healing. I understand your reluctance to take the time away from work but it is in your best interest to have both injuries repaired simultaneously. |
