Survival Time after Stopping Dialysis |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: My Mom has stopped Diaysis treatmemt after 2 weeks says she does not want to live that way what should we expect? Dear Sandy: I understand your concern about your mother’s condition. Surely if she is having dialysis, you might already know that she has an end stage kidney disease and if she does not comply with her dialysis sessions she will get serious complications that might end her life. Dialysis is used to clear toxins from the body. Without removal of the toxins, survival time would be short - likely less than one week. I would suggest you to encourage her to continue with the dialysis, I understand how she feels about that procedure and having to stick needles every week on her arm but this is necessary to help her kidneys and support their function. I hope she understands. I would suggest you to advice her Nephrologist of this situation as well.
