Is it Possible to Avoid Dialysis After Kidney Transplant?

Dear Ask The Doctor: How can i avoid dialysis after a kidney transplant?

In more cases than not, dialysis is inevitable after kidney transplant. It is still a case to case basis depending on the current problems being handled. I am not eager to be the bad news bearer but there is a fair chance you will eventually need dialysis. But maybe not in the near future; it will most likely be needed eventually. You may delay its need by following all the instructions and all medications being given to you, doing the blood tests and imaging procedures promptly, being religious with the dietary restrictions and lifestyle modifications. Some kidney transplant recipients reject the transplanted kidney and kidney failure will ensue faster in these cases, hence the need for dialysis will be needed all the more. If you have been having dialysis before a transplant then there is a bigger chance to have dialysis sooner. I do hope this helps. Take care always.
