Dear Ask The Doctor: I am 53 and have three age spots on the right side of my hand. The skin around and under these are tender and a burning sensation is there a lot. What is the cause of this? Dear Anne: These could be actinic keratoses or solar keratoses, which are are tender red dry spots found often on the backs of the hands. Solar keratoses are treated by cryotherapy (freezing with liquid nitrogen). |
