Medications to avoid Menstrual cycles

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello My name is Naeema and my question is. Can you tell me what alternatives are available for women over the age of 50 who would like to stop their Menstrual Cycle that does not require any surgery

Dear Naeema:

One of the most common ways to stop menstrual cycles is by taking oral contraceptives. If you want to stop your monthly menses, this could be done by extending the time between hormone-free weeks in an oral contraceptive regimen.

Other options such as Seasonale or Seasonique contain 84 pills and will only give you 4 menstrual cycles per year. I would suggest you to consult your Gynecologist for a better evaluation and prescription of the medication.
