HIV test results interpretation

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am HIV positive under medication (Truvada and Stocrin). Test results last September werw CD4 count 450, CD4/CD8 0.6, viral load 0. Test results two weeks ago were CD4 count 320, CD4/CD8 0.83, viral load 0. What is the situation> Am I better ow worse?

Dear Gi: I am not sure why testing was done so close together. It is usually done 3 -6 months apart or 6-8 weeks after a medication change.  Both results are reassuring that the treatment is effective and I would not change any medication dosages unless you are having side effects or experiencing an AIDS defining illness.  Of course, no medication changes should be made without your doctors supervision and approval.
